Introduction
Bull Moose, Grand Teton National Park
This blog is a space where I’ll share my perspective on wildlife and nature photography—not just as a photographer, but as a biologist who has spent a lifetime in the field observing and working with the natural world. Photography, for me, is more than capturing an image. It’s about understanding the behavior, habitats, and subtle patterns of the species we encounter, and translating that into meaningful photographs.
Over time, you’ll find a mix of stories here: trip reports, highlights from workshops and field excursions that I undertake. I’ll describe logistics, safety, and the sometimes unpredictable challenges that come with photographing wildlife. I’ll also share thoughts on gear, techniques, and the creative process, that may be helpful as you plan your own trip.
Beyond the fieldwork, the blogs will also touch on news from the broader world of photography—competitions I enter, art shows, educational talks, interpretive walks, and personal milestones within professional organizations. You can also expect the occasional detour into other subjects I enjoy shooting, like events, outdoor sports, and architecture.
My hope is that this blog becomes more than a collection of notes from my travels. I hope it will inspire an interest for nature, wildlife and the habitats where they occur. Let’s go find something to photograph!
